What a lovely time of year this is. The weather is warming up, the days are longer, kids are finishing up school for the year and everyone is starting to wind down a little and relax.
Christmas time means lots of different things to different people, but I think a common thread to most people’s holiday/festive season, is family. It’s normally the time people take leave from work to either travel for holidays or stay at home and spend quality time with their loved ones.
Whatever this time of year means to you, I’m sure one important feature will be food! Food, glorious food! At this time of year, we are spoilt for choice – delicious meat, poultry and seafood can be paired with the extraordinary variety of fresh fruit and vegetables this country is famous for.
No matter whether you’re from the hot Christmas lunch/dinner camp or the cold, here at Di Censo butchers, we have you covered!
Let’s look at the options we have for celebrating Christmas day over a hot lunch or dinner. We have ready to order delicious premium free range Leadoux turkeys from Judy Leadoux’s farm in Bairnsdale. These birds are grown and processed on-site and are famous for being super moist and succulent. If you’ve never roasted a turkey before, ask one of our experienced staff on the best way to go about it. Another firm favourite are our Mt Mercer hams. Outdoor bred and smoked in-house, our hams are nitrate free and mouth watering. Make sure you place an order now to ensure you don’t miss out. If it’s pork you are keen on, we also have our famous roast Porchetta’s ready to order. Popular in central Italy, these are easy carve, crispy skinned and always a hit with guests! Don’t forget we stock organic and free range Milawa chickens and free range Bannockburn chickens which make for an easy and always popular Christmas lunch or dinner. Although lamb has been a little more expensive this past spring, we have delicious, tender legs ready to roast, if ethically sourced and hand selected Victorian lamb is your preference.
A cold Christmas day lunch or dinner can be as delicious and festive and is often preferable if the weather is scorching hot! All the meat and poultry we stock that would be perfect for a traditional hot meal, can also double as the centrepiece for a sumptuous cold spread. Pair any of our meats and poultry with salads and you have yourself a less stressful but equally delicious meal.
Don’t forget, we also stock a large range of condiments such as Beerenberg Apple and Cranberry Sauce, Mint Jelly and Boxing Day Chutney; The Stock Merchant’s Free Range Red Wine Jus, Broths and Stocks; Murray River Gourmet Salt Flakes and traditional mayonnaise and mustards.
